Gadgets: Aviator headphones

Skullcandy (remember them) has announced the revival and launch of its world-renowned Aviator franchise with the Aviator 900 ANC headphones.

Initially launched in 2010, the Skullcandy Aviator line was well-known for its design, superior sound quality and many celebrity endorsements. Skullcandy doesn't want to call it a comeback; instead, as mentioned, it's a revival.

Either way, the new Aviator 900 ANC headphones are great-sounding, with bass-heavy, immersive 3D sound from 40mm drivers on each side. Right out of the box, the sound was excellent, but the Skullcandy app let me fine-tune it to high-quality levels, including personalized EQ settings and three EQ modes (music, podcast, bass boost).

There are many innovative features on the new headset; one that stood out to me is adaptive active noise canceling. It did really well at blocking street noise on a walk, and it had good timing during my testing, coming along with me on a vacation plane ride. They adjusted well in each environment.

THX Spatial Audio with Head Tracking is really cool. The feature, along with Play/Pause detection, has the headset basically reading your mind. It allows the sound to respond to your head movements and adapts almost instantly.

Many more advanced features set these headphones apart. Including 60-plus hours of battery life with the ANC off, 50 hours with it on. The memory foam ergonomic earcups were as comfortable as any, with a sweat- and water-resistant Nono-coating. Microphones are built in for crystal-clear handsfree calls. Bluetooth 5.3 allows easy pairing and multipoint pairing.

Wear Detect pauses the music when you take the headset off, and the collapsible design makes it perfect for storage. There are customized button functions for personalizing your specific needs. The new and vintage looks, combined with the sound quality, make these worth the price. The revival is genuine.

Skullcandy’s new Method 360 ANC true wireless earbuds are a surprisingly premium experience at a budget-friendly price and a key ingredient to their success is right there on the box: Sound by Bose.

That Bose feature turns heads, and with good reason. Bose has long been synonymous with rich, and balanced audio. The Method 360 ANC deliver impressive clarity and depth that set them apart from most earbuds in their price range.

Feature-wise, Skullcandy packed plenty in. You get 4-mic active noise cancellation, up to 32 hours of total battery life with ANC on (or 40 with it off, including the charging case), and an IPX4 water-resistance rating for workouts or light rain. Connectivity is modern and reliable thanks to Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint pairing, so you can switch between devices without missing a beat.

The Skull-iQ companion app rounds out the experience, adding useful extras like voice controls, customizable buttons, and three EQ presets. Overall, the Method 360 ANC earbuds deliver far more than their price suggests. With Bose-tuned sound, strong ANC performance, are well worth a try.

There's no shortage of features in the new i-Sight S-650 dashcam, which includes a front camera with a 127-degree field of view, an F1.8 lens, and a recording resolution of 2560 by 1440 (2K) at 30 and 60 frames per second. It has a 2.4-inch IPS display on the front, along with on-device controls. The rear camera records in full HD at 1920 by 1080.

Both cameras produce crisp, clear, detailed footage. And while driving at night, the Super Night Vision provides clear video, making it easy to read license plates and car makes. When you use the hardwire kit ($38.11/Amazon), the 24-hour parking monitoring features will detect impact.

Footage is recorded on your own class 10 microSD memory card in a continuous loop. Files can be downloaded with Wi-Fi to the companion mobile app. There you can view, edit and email your videos. Voice control lets you access key functions handsfree, including taking a still image, turning off the screen or turning on Wi-Fi. GPS is built in to store critical data, including location, time, date and your driving speed.

The Trapo i-Sight S-650 dashcam can be plugged in with the included 12V car charger (cigarette lighter) adapter for quick, easy power, or with the hardwire kit for a more permanent setup. The hardwire kit is really straightforward to install, and I don't see any reason it would take anyone more than half an hour, start to finish.

An Advanced Driver Assistance System is built in for added safety alerts on the road. It includes real-time lane departure and pedestrian collision alerts.

H20 Audio's Sonar 2 Pro open‑ear bone‑conduction headset is ideal for swimmers or for casual use on a pool float. Either way, they feature a wireless headphone for each ear, attached with a band.

The waterproof headphones have Bluetooth, which works well on land. But underwater is a different story. As H20 Audio pointed out, Bluetooth range underwater is limited to just a few inches — fine if your device is very close.

To take your music underwater without your smartphone, the Sonar 2 Pro features an onboard MP3 player. It has 8GB of memory, which is enough for thousands of songs. Dual Mode Playback lets you toggle between streaming on land and stored music for underwater play.

Loading it is easy: connect it to a Mac or PC and drag & drop our music in, or connect it to Apple iTunes. Supported music formats include MPEG-4 and MP3.

They are built with an IPX8 waterproof rating. As stated in the specs for the Sonar 2 Pro, it is 100% waterproof. H2O Audio's Waterproof technology ensures that the Sonar 2 Pro performs when submerged to 12 feet. Each earpiece features a slim, removable goggle clip that can attach to a swim cap or goggles.

The free H2O Audio companion app (Apple and Android) manages the headset. This includes your music, software updates and other features. Onboard controls let you power them on, play and pause music, and control the volume.

The battery is rated for 10 hours of playtime. A full recharge takes up to 2 hours with the included custom magnetic USB cable engineered for waterproof integrity. A travel case is included.

If you're always on the move —whether you're taking calls at home, in the office, or on the go —the Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex is the headset ready to roll with you.

Portability is just one of the features that make the headset stand out, thanks to its compact, foldable, travel-ready design. When in use, it's lightweight, with super-soft foam rotating earcups and an ergonomic fit for all-day use, powered by Jabra's "AirComfort" technology.

The Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation does a great job blocking distractions, so you only hear what you need, not traffic, chatter or background noise. And thanks to Jabra's voice-isolating ClearVoice microphone technology, your voice comes through loud and clear through the short boom arm, no matter where you're calling from.

When the meetings wrap up, switch gears and turn on your favorite playlist. Just flip the boom mic up on its hinge and it's out of the way. Each earcup features a 28 mm speaker, delivering clear, balanced sound whether you're on a call or listening to music.

Connecting to your device is simple with Bluetooth 5.2 or USB, and you'll get up to 32 hours of battery life with ANC off (or around 21 hours with it on). A full charge takes about two hours, so you're never offline for long. Charging can be done wired or wirelessly, and an optional charging stand is available for extra convenience. A protective pouch to keep your headset safe is included.

If you're using Microsoft Teams, there's even a model with a dedicated button that lets you jump into meetings instantly.

The USB-C model with a charging cord costs $246.77, or $311.77 with the wireless charging pad. The USB-A version is priced at $229.99 for the corded model and $325.54 with the pad — all available on Amazon.
