Blues defenseman Colton Parayko blocks reported trade to Sabres

ST. LOUIS — Colton Parayko will remain a Blue — for now.
Parayko used his no-trade clause to block a potential trade to Buffalo that was originally reported Wednesday. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Blues would have received prospect Radim Mrtka and a first-round pick in exchange for their veteran defenseman.
Parayko is in the fourth year of an eight-year contract with the Blues that carries a $6.5 million cap hit. He has had a full no-trade clause since the start of the 2022-23 season and will have one through the 2027-28 season.
This is the second time in the past three years a major Blues trade was publicly blocked by a no-trade clause, following Torey Krug's use of his no-trade clause in 2023 to veto a trade to the Flyers.
It still remains possible Parayko could be on the move elsewhere before Friday's trade deadline at 2 p.m. central time, but that destination will not be Buffalo.
Parayko, 32, is the longest-tenured player on the Blues, having spent the past 11 seasons in the Note, beginning with his debut during the 2015-16 season. In Blues franchise history, he ranks third in games played and fourth in points for a defenseman behind Al MacInnis, Alex Pietrangelo and Chris Pronger.
The potential Parayko deal would have been the first one of the trade deadline for the Blues, who are expected to be major players in selling off assets amid a season that has them second-to-last in the NHL.
Parayko has missed the past three games, including Wednesday night's 3-2 win over Seattle, with back spasms.
