The St. Louis Blues blew a four-goal lead in an eventual 6-4 loss to the Red Wings on Saturday night in Detroit.

Simon Edvinsson scored the game-winning goal for Detroit with 9:12 left in the third period, highlighting a roaring rally by the Red Wings after the Blues built a 4-0 lead after just 23 minutes of game action.

Jake Neighbours (twice), Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich scored for the Blues, who received 22 saves from Jordan Binnington.

Edvinsson's game-winner appeared to be a harmless point shot, but it deflected off of Brayden Schenn and evaded Binnington. He also added an empty-net goal with 1:13 left in the third period to ice the game.

Robert Thomas did not play the final 17:58 of the third period due to an upper-body injury.

The Blues finish a two-game road trip on Monday in Pittsburgh.

Comeback Wings

Detroit eliminated a 4-0 Blues lead midway in the third period when Alex DeBrincat ripped a shot past Binnington at 10:01 of the third. DeBrincat capitalized on a Neighbours turnover at the offensive blue line that gave the Red Wings possession.

The Red Wings began their push in the second period after Matthew Kessel was called for cross-checking Lucas Raymond, who took an extra swipe at Binnington after a whistle. Jonatan Berggren cashed in on the ensuing Detroit power play, finishing a cross-crease pass from Andrew Copp.

Then Detroit scored twice in 27 seconds to trim the Blues lead to 4-3 entering the second intermission.

Emmitt Finnie found a bouncing puck at the side of the net and swatted it past Binnington, then J.T. Compher redirected an airborne puck that was inches away from being above the crossbar (and therefore would be ruled no goal).

Power play prowess

For the first time this season, the Blues scored twice on the power play thanks to Jordan Kyrou in the first period and Pavel Buchnevich in the second.

The Blues changed up their power-play units before Saturday's game against the Red Wings, a continuation of the tinkering the staff has done in the first two weeks of the season.

On one unit, Brayden Schenn was at the net-front, Jimmy Snuggerud in the left circle, Pius Suter in the bumper, Kyrou in the right circle and Cam Fowler at the point. On the other, it was Neighbours at the net-front, Robert Thomas in the left circle, Buchnevich in the bumper, Dylan Holloway in the right circle and Justin Faulk at the point.

It was the first time this season that Kyrou flipped spots on the ice and was no longer in his one-timer position. Instead, he was able to walk to the top of the circle and beat John Gibson from distance for his second goal of the season. Kyrou's goal at 7:43 gave the Blues a 1-0 lead.

Buchnevich gave the Blues a 3-0 lead just 59 seconds into the second period with a nifty deflection in the slot off a hard pass from Holloway on the wing. Both of Buchnevich's goals this season have been on the power play, including a goal on Thursday against the Mammoth.

Top scorer Neighbours

Neighbours entered Saturday with a team-leading four goals, and he extended that lead by scoring twice in Detroit. Both of Neighbours' goals came at even strength.

His first came at 12:54 of the first period and gave the Blues a 2-0 lead. Neighbours initially recovered a puck in the corner, and it eventually found Thomas on the left wing. Thomas found an activating Justin Faulk down the right wing, and Faulk slid a pass to the crease that Neighbours' touched home.

Neighbours struck again at 3:12 of the second period, giving the Blues a 4-0 lead. Neighbours helped ease the puck out of the St. Louis zone, allowing Thomas and Snuggerud to navigate the neutral zone. Thomas won a race to a puck at the right dot, and then spun a no-look pass to a driving Neighbours in the slot.

It was Neighbours' second multi-goal game of the season, following his two-goal game in Calgary on Oct. 11.

Lineup changes, too

The Blues unveiled a revamped forward group on Saturday night that resulted in four new lines that looked like this:

— Jake Neighbours, Robert Thomas and Jimmy Snuggerud.

— Mathieu Joseph, Brayden Schenn and Jordan Kyrou.

— Pavel Buchnevich, Pius Suter and Nathan Walker.

— Dylan Holloway, Oskar Sundqvist and Nick Bjugstad.

On defense, the Blues reunited their top two pairings of Cam Fowler and Colton Parayko, plus Philip Broberg and Justin Faulk. Logan Mailloux was a healthy scratch again as Matthew Kessel rejoined the lineup on the third pair with Tyler Tucker.
