Free agent NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, revealed in an interview released Tuesday that he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs for 2024.
Beckham told NFL podcast “The Pivot” of the positive drug test that would’ve occurred while he was with the Dolphins.
The one-time star who turns 33 within a month said he has no intentions of retiring at this point in time, and Beckham would be subject to a six-game suspension upon any return in which he signs with a team.
“To come back and play football,” Beckham said in “The Pivot” interview, “I have to come out and deal with, while I was in Miami, hearing that you’re getting charged and someone says, ‘You failed for PED.’ ”
Beckham said he didn’t knowingly take any PED and was perplexed as to what it could’ve been he said he never took any new supplements he didn’t take previously.
“I’ve never cheated the system,” Beckham said. “I’ve never ran from no test. I’ve never failed a test not once in my life.”
He mentioned having a low testosterone level in routine bloodwork before the season, and the positive test claimed his testosterone was high.
Beckham’s time with Miami ended abruptly when he was waived Dec. 13. He was not picked up by another team.
Beckham was brought onto Miami’s roster in the 2024 offseason and started the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list because he was recovering from an offseason knee procedure.
Debuting after missing the first four games with the Dolphins, he never had his old impact from his three Pro Bowl seasons. In nine games, Beckham had nine catches on 18 targets for 55 yards.
Beckham told “The Pivot” the Los Angeles Rams would be a preferred destination for a potential return in 2025, playing under coach Sean McVay. He also mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers as landing spots he thinks could work for him. Beckham added he would also love to finish his career where it started, with the New York Giants.
