Report: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks discussing star's future in Milwaukee

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s time in Milwaukee could be nearing an end.
Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks have begun discussing whether it makes sense for the two-time NBA MVP to continue his career somewhere else, according to ESPN.
The sides are reportedly expected to decide in the coming weeks whether Antetokounmpo’s future is in Milwaukee or elsewhere. That would provide ample time for the Bucks to engineer a trade before the Feb. 5 deadline should they decide that course of action.
Trade rumors swirled around Antetokounmpo throughout the offseason, with ESPN reporting in October that Antetokounmpo eyed the Knicks as a possible destination.
The Knicks and Bucks reportedly even discussed what a trade might look like, but Antetokounmpo ultimately committed to Milwaukee to begin the season.
“I’m here. I believe in this team. I believe in my teammates,” Antetokounmpo said a day after that report.
“Now, if in six, seven months, I change my mind, I think that’s human too, you’re allowed to make any decision you want, but I’m locked in. I’m locked in to this team. I’m locked in to these guys, to this group and to this coaching staff and to myself.”
Earlier this week, Antetokounmpo removed most mentions of the Bucks, with whom he’s spent his entire 13-year NBA career, from his social media accounts.
Antetokounmpo, 30, entered Wednesday averaging 30.4 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game, yet the Bucks were just 9-13 and had lost eight of their previous nine games.
Since they won the NBA Finals in 2021, the Bucks have not advanced past the second round of the playoffs. They were eliminated in the first round in each of the past three postseasons.
Over the summer, the Bucks waived star point guard Damian Lillard, who is recovering from an Achilles tear, and then signed center Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million contract.
But the roster shakeup has not resulted in consistent winning for Milwaukee, which began Wednesday in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
