Mariners outfielder Victor Robles' suspension reduced to 7 games after appeal

CLEVELAND — The Mariners will be without Victor Robles for the first seven games of their nine-game, three-city road trip.
On Friday, Major League Baseball announced that Robles’ 10-game suspension has been reduced to seven games upon appeal. He will begin serving that suspension immediately with the Mariners being forced to play without filling his roster spot, meaning they will have 12 position players on the roster. He will be eligible to return for the Sept. 6 game in Atlanta.
While the Mariners can’t add a player to replace Robles during his suspension, they will be able to add another position player on Sept. 1 when roster expand to 28 players.
Robles was originally given a 10-game suspension for throwing his bat at a pitcher during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on August 17. Since Robles decided to appeal, the suspension was held in abeyance per the MLB-MLB Players Association collective bargaining agreement. With a slate of opposing left-handed starters on the recent homestand, the Mariners opted to reinstate Robles from the injured list while awaiting the appeal hearing, and play him in the interim.
He started in three games and came off the bench in another, going 2 for 13 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Robles’ appeal had not been heard as of Thursday morning, per his agent Rafa Nieves.
