The Trump administration is set to cancel some $8 billion in clean energy projects ushered in by the Biden administration across several states, including Maryland, according to the director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

In a post on X Wednesday afternoon, OMB director Russell Vought wrote that “nearly $8 billion in Green New Scam funding to fuel the Left’s climate agenda is being cancelled” in 16 states — all of which voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Alongside Maryland, the states identified by Vought that will be targeted by the funding withdrawal include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.

Vought wrote that more information will be shared by the Department of Energy.

From its outset, the current Trump administration has stated its goal to establish “energy dominance” by expanding fossil fuel production over that of renewable energy.

Among the key targets in this initiative are the investments set aside for renewable energy in the Inflation Reduction Act, signed by former President Joe Biden in 2022, which President Donald Trump dubbed the “Green New Scam.”

The legislation set aside $3 billion in federal funding for projects in American ports to reduce pollution and create jobs in the surrounding areas. The Port of Baltimore received a pledge of $147 million.

Earlier this year, the administration froze about $15 million in funding to the Maryland Department of Environment, despite court orders intended to block the freeze.
