This Life Miraculous

Holiday Mathis on

These early stages of Mercury and Jupiter's retrograde remind us that most brilliant creative processes involve some version of goopy chaos. Emotional work that feels grasping and inept as it goes down can still be glorious as it grows up. Do not doubt that the mess is just something that comes with it. Can you see it as the residue of this life miraculous?

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You've been managing, fixing and explaining for what feels like an entire season, so today's opportunity to step back is a welcome reprieve. How refreshing it will be to see things fall into place without your constant tending.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Fresh faces and ideas are part of the landscape. Pace yourself. Everything new is thrilling at first, but what goes beyond the rush of novelty? That's where the real truth about what's worth pursuing starts to come together.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You're curious about others. You ask good questions and great follow-up questions and hold yourself to a near-divine standard of understanding. Meanwhile, you often forgive others their incuriousness, which gets old. Seek reciprocity and mutuality.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Many of your ancestors didn't live to see their dreams come true, but if they could see you now, they would toast your freedoms, your rich variety of choices and the power you have over your own destiny. Does it make you want to celebrate these things, too?

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Like the tide returning to the shore, like the sun's daily rise, like the moon in faithful orbit, you show up for your people. Whether or not they notice, appreciate or return your devotion has no bearing on your consistency. That's love.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Often, you can make things happen with emotions like determination, passion, enthusiasm and desire. Not today. Today, you will get what you want rather casually, even lazily. It's as though what you want is attracted to your nonchalance.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). It's the paradox of abundance: to keep something flowing, it must be contained. Rivers need banks. Fire needs a hearth. Light needs a lamp. Without a vessel, energy disperses. Boundaries are the vessel that keeps love alive.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You know what you're doing, from the big picture to the detailed minutiae. There was a time you didn't know enough to bring a project together, but now you'll make up for it, accomplishing all the things you couldn't before.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You've reached a stage where you're no longer reacting automatically to people who used to push your buttons. Instead of letting them dictate how you feel or behave, you're staying conscious, centered and on-purpose.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You'll have the honor of a special request. It feels good to be chosen, even though what you're chosen for will be a substantial amount of work. The people involved will make the challenge a pleasure.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You don't have to earn the right to rest. Fatigue isn't a moral failure; it's a sign you've been working. Invisible work counts, too. Let yourself recover. Step away for a few hours and watch the world manage fine without you.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You try to lead with attractiveness, but that doesn't mean you have to make big efforts every single time. Today, you get optimal results showing up however you really feel. Those close to you will love you all the more for it.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Nov. 13). Welcome to your Year of Everyday Enchantment. There's magic in work, errands, morning light and also in big drops that splash into your world -- a financial win, a vacation, a special relationship. More highlights: Your creativity flourishes through routine. You'll publish, perform or share something that moves people deeply. You'll make efforts to reconnect with your roots. Libra and Pisces adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 11, 5, 14, 36 and 48.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Like a Scorpio, Jimmy Kimmel approaches his work with intensity, his hallmark being pointed satire and passionate commentary, especially when politics or social issues are at stake. Complexity and contrast are also Scorpio energy. Though Kimmel is known for humor, he has shown serious and vulnerable sides -- especially when reflecting on backlash, public responsibility or the tension of free speech. Kimmel has three natal Scorpio luminaries. Venus in Libra mixes in some diplomacy.
