An Intimate Retrograde

Holiday Mathis on

Intimacy is tricky business. You want to be adored for the person you are, not the person you have to enact to be useful. However, realness reveals vulnerability and so is inextricably linked to the risk of harm. This early moment of the Mercury retrograde suggests the better you get to know someone, the more accurately you will be able to assess your risk.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You commit to the comfort of others, making things such as food, order, sales and atmosphere. Do you receive the same care? When offered even small tokens, you'll pour appreciation into it because you understand what giving costs.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You think love and understanding should go together, and yet you often have experienced relationships with only one of those things. The incompleteness may actually be part of the attraction now. You're compelled to make the tie more whole.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Don't continue to execute a plan that's draining you. Release control. When you finally stop forcing a direction, another idea falls into the gap, and it's easy for you because your energy is no longer tied up in resistance.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Surprisingly intense emotions come up, and your first instinct might be to push them away. But if you can resist that impulse and stick with the feeling for a moment, it will give you a distinct advantage.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You will change a pattern in a relationship (like setting a new boundary or trying a softer tone), and the other person will react with confusion. That's just them adjusting to the new dynamic. Keep going until the world catches up.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Everything has a price -- dollars, energy, emotion. Something must be exchanged. Today, you will linger in the innocent moment before you learn the cost of a thing. For that childlike bubble of time, life feels wild and free.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). What's happening is something very different from your original idea. It's as though your creation had a mind of its own right out of the gate. Keep the original intent in your back pocket for another day. It's still good, but this rogue runaway is timelier.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). It's pretty common to have an idealized self -- someone you want to be -- and maybe you even thought you'd be that person by now. But who you are is really the best person to be. It's the person this day needs. You'll get proof of that!

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Yes, there are a million things to do, but only one that fits perfectly into this day. You'll commit to seeing that task all the way through, and there's peace and self-esteem for you when your head hits the pillow tonight.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). There is no right or wrong way to sense the world. A cat has different senses from a spider, each according to what supports their own survival. You will connect to a scene uniquely today because you sense things others do not.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You'll learn what has structure because you test it. You have to walk away to find out. A friendship survives when you stop initiating every move. A project progresses even when you take a day off.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You can tell what someone values by what they repeat. You'll apply this to yourself today, too, and you'll notice what loops. You'll refine or replace certain thoughts, words and deeds so they better represent your character and heart.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Nov. 10). Welcome to your Year of the Magnetic Glow-Up. You'll reinvent your image and your confidence simultaneously. You'll find beauty in unlikely places, and fall in love with your reflection -- the inner one most of all. More highlights: The right collaborators appear as you say yes to bold projects and intriguing invitations. You'll turn a side passion into profit and invest very well. Virgo and Aries adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 14, 6, 28, 41 and 9.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Kiernan Shipka recently starred in a fake horror movie trailer to promote healthier screen habits with the wellness brand Hatch. From "Mad Men" to "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" and beyond, Shipka delivers her art like a Scorpio -- with a sense of mystery and knack for a transformation in diverse roles, from horror to comedy. Her fascinating ability to convey vulnerability while also appearing powerful and in control is a Scorpio hallmark that keeps fans invested in her journey.
