Jennifer Lopez has urged Super Bowl viewers to give Bad Bunny "a chance".

The Puerto Rican rapper has been chosen as the headline act for the NFL showpiece game next February but has faced criticism because he performs in his native Spanish and now the On the Floor hitmaker - who co-headlined the event with Shakira in 2020 - has come to his defence and insisted Bad Bunny's lack of English lyrics "doesn't matter".

Speaking on CBS Mornings, she said: "Music and art transcends language. It doesn't matter. He's done that probably more than anybody of any generation.

"The Super Bowl is great because it introduces you to people that don't know you. I'm sure there was people that didn't know me or Shakira or weren't fans of ours.

"But when they saw us, [they said] 'Oh! That's what they do.' It's an opportunity to show people who you are, what you're about, what you believe in. It's a big platform for artists. It's probably the biggest stage that you could hope to be on. And I think it's wonderful that people will get exposed to him who don't know him."

The 56-year-old star urged people not to close themselves off to "something wonderful."

She added: "Don't do that to yourself. That's what I would say. I'm telling you, just give it a chance."

Bad Bunny made a surprise appearance during Jennifer's own Super Bowl performance and the On the Floor hitmaker recently recalled what an "amazing" time they had.

She said on TODAY: "Me, Shakira, J Balvin, and we had an amazing time. It was a really cultural moment...

"I'm so excited for him. I was excited when he performed with us at the Super Bowl and I'm excited to see what he does. He puts on a great show. He's an amazing entertainer."

Bad Bunny previously vowed not to bring his tour to the US as he feared immigration officials could be outside his concerts amid President Donald Trump's crackdown on the issue.

And Trump administration officials have suggested that NFL chiefs will regret their decision to choose the Dakiti hitmaker for the halftime show at the game in California.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said: "They suck, and we'll win, and God will bless us, and we'll stand and be proud of ourselves at the end of the day. They won't be able to sleep at night because they don't know what they believe, and they're so weak, we'll fix it.

"The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for keeping it safe. So I have the responsibility for making sure everybody goes to the Super Bowl, has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave, and that's what America is about."

Trump's advisor Corey Lewandowski stated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials will be at the Super Bowl, irrespective of Bad Bunny's views.

He told The Benny Show: "There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally.

"Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you and apprehend you and put you in a detention facility, and deport you. Know that is a very real situation under this administration, which is contrary to how it used to be."
