Finnie nets first goals, Larkin also scores twice as Red Wings defeat Oilers

DETROIT — What looked like an imposing stretch of hockey to begin the season for the Detroit Red Wings turned out better than most could have expected.
Dylan Larkin and Emmitt Finnie each had two goals — the first two of Finnie's career — and goaltender John Gibson made 16 saves (and was credited with an assist, for good measure) as the Wings skated to their fifth consecutive victory Sunday, 4-2 over the Edmonton Oilers.
Larkin and Lucas Raymond had two assists each, and Finnie had one, as the Wings' top line dominated.
After a humbling opening-night loss against Montreal, the Wings have defeated Toronto twice, Tampa Bay, two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida, and the team Florida beat those two years, Edmonton, for five impressive wins.
Leon Draisaitl cut the Wings lead to 3-2 at 7:33 of the third period, Draisaitl's fourth goal, but Finnie's empty-net goal sealed the win.
Larkin and Finnie broke open what had been a 0-0 game for nearly 29 minutes.
Larkin got the scoring going at 8:51 of the second period. Ben Chiarot found Larkin in the slot and Larkin one-timed a blast past goaltender Stuart Skinner, with Raymond, back into the lineup after missing two games, also assisting.
Finnie pushed the lead to 2-0 at 11:54 with his first NHL goal. Finnie, unattended in front, pounced on rebound of Jacob Bernard-Docker's shot and knocked the puck past Skinner, making it 2-0.
After Noah Philp's goal cut the lead to 2-1 at 12:25, Larkin's second goal and fifth of the season restored the two-goal lead. Larkin skated to near the goal line, wheeled back, and threw the puck at the net, the puck bouncing off an Oilers defender and Skinner at 17:17.
