Kane shootout goal lifts Wings to another 7-game win streak
Published in Hockey
The thought of the Red Wings going on a seven-game winning streak earlier this season might have been a bit unbelievable.
The idea of the Wings putting two such win streaks together in a span of 20 games would have been laughed out of reality.
But this is a different looking Wings team. Tuesday in Seattle they accomplished the impressive feat, defeating the Kraken 5-4 for their second seven-game win streak under coach Todd McLellan.
Patrick Kane scored the lone goal in the shootout with the 53rd shootout goal in his career, passing former Chicago teammate Jonathan Toews (52).
Goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 23 shots and all three in the shootout to secure his 10th win in his last 11 decisions.
Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider (power play), Jonatan Berggren (power play) and Elmer Soderblom had the Wings' goals.
The Wings (28-21-5) are 15-4-1 under McLellan, with the two seven-game win streaks. They maintained their wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and in the tightly-bunched Atlantic Division, are suddenly only six points from first-place Florida.
"What a trip," Kane told FanDual Sports Network. "The team is feeling confident right now and finding ways to win."
Berggren broke a 2-2 tie with the Wings' second power-play goal of the night. Berggren gathered Andrew Copp's faceoff victory and beat goaltender Joey Daccord from the slot at 10:41 of the second period, Berggren's ninth goal.
After the Wings couldn't convert an early third-period power play, Soderblom gave the Wings a 4-2 lead at 3:21 of the third period. Soderblom backhanded a shot net-front, converting a good feed from Joe Veleno, for Soderblom's second goal.
But Seattle (23-28-4) battled back, with Shane Wright scoring his second goal of the game and Chandler Stephenson tying the game at 17:04 of the third period.
The Wings host Tampa, who holds the other wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, Saturday before going on a two-week hiatus for the 4-Nations Face-Off Tournament.
