Bennie Fowler predicts 0-2 Chiefs to trade for Tyreek Hill, win Super Bowl

NEW YORK — The Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) are down on the mat and desperate entering Sunday night’s visit to the New York Giants (0-2) at MetLife Stadium. But Super Bowl 50 champion Bennie Fowler still believes Kansas City will win Super Bowl 60.

And he thinks they’ll reacquire a familiar weapon to do it.

“They’ll end up trading for Tyreek Hill here in the next couple weeks I believe,” Fowler said on the “Talkin’ Ball with Pat Leonard” podcast. “That’s my little bold prediction. They reunite, because they need that type of weapon.”

“When you look back at great quarterbacks throughout their entire career, they need a resurgence in terms of the weapons that they throw to,” Fowler added. “Travis Kelce isn’t done yet, but he’s not who he used to be. The other receivers there aren’t creating the type of separation. You need dynamic playmakers.”

Hill, 31, who plays for the Dolphins, appeared in two Super Bowls with the Chiefs and won one, Super Bowl 54 in February 2020. But Kansas City traded him to the Miami Dolphins in March 2022.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs didn’t miss a beat without Hill. They won two more Super Bowls and appeared in a third last season, falling short of a three-peat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, though, Andy Reid’s offense needs more juice.

Possession receiver Rashee Rice is suspended for the first six games of the season. Speedy wideout Xavier Worthy has been banged up. Kelce, the future Hall of Fame tight end, isn’t getting any younger.

But even when all of those players get back on the field together, Fowler believes Mahomes needs an extra, explosive option to add a more dynamic element on top of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Hollywood Brown and Tyquan Thornton.

“What did [Tom] Brady get after they won three Super Bowls and then they went a couple years without winning one? They traded for Randy Moss,” Fowler said. “And then Brady wins MVP, leads the league in passing and touchdowns, breaks the touchdown record. So you’re gonna have to do that for Patrick Mahomes.”

“Yeah, Rashee Rice is coming back [eventually], but who’s gonna be that catch and run guy, that Tyreek Hill type that you had a couple years ago?” he asked. “He’s got a couple years left on his deal. I think they end up trading for him and finding that type of playmaker.”

Hill does have the 2025-26 seasons remaining on his Dolphins deal before his contract is scheduled to void in February 2027. And it’s well documented that Hill is disgruntled in Miami and that the Dolphins (0-2) are the Vegas betting favorite to be the first team to fire its head coach, Mike McDaniel, this season.

The rest of the NFL would love to see a changing of the guard at the top of the AFC after the Chiefs’ domination, appearing in five of the past six Super Bowls.

But Fowler says not so fast.
