Four-time MVP A'ja Wilson re-signs with Aces on WNBA supermax deal

LAS VEGAS — Four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson has agreed to a supermax contract to return to the Las Vegas Aces, the team announced Wednesday.
After leading the Aces to their third championship in four years with a historic 2025 campaign, Wilson became an unrestricted free agent along with a majority of the league. The deal she and the team finalized is for three years, $5 million.
The contract makes her the highest paid player in the league.
The Review-Journal reported in March that Wilson was expected to re-sign with the Aces on the new supermax contract, which increased from $249,000 in 2025 to $1.4 million in the league’s new collective bargaining agreement.
Wilson’s deal was anticipated to be the team’s first offseason priority, but the Aces instead extended qualifying offers to restricted free agents Kierstan Bell and NaLyssa Smith first. The reigning champs then came to terms with guard Jackie Young on a one-year deal for the new regular max of $1.19 million, then signed veteran guards Jewell Loyd and Chelsea Gray to multi-million dollar, three-year deals. The Aces also re-signed Cheyenne Parker-Tyus to a one-year deal.
Wilson, who signed a two-year extension in 2023 worth $200,000 per year, has consistently taken team-friendly deals to aid the Aces in roster construction.
The 29-year-old was not among the top 25 highest paid players last season, despite becoming the first WNBA or NBA player to claim the league scoring title, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP all in the same campaign.
None of that has mattered for Wilson, who has consistently said she would remain with the team that drafted her No. 1 overall out of South Carolina in 2018.
“I know exactly where I am. I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas. I’m looking to win another one,” Wilson told reporters at USA basketball minicamp on April 3. “I’m looking to defend a championship that we have in Las Vegas.
“I’m looking to get better as a leader, as a player. Everything else just kind of falls in line.”
