Warriors' Kuminga out with bone bruise in knee

Jonathan Kuminga has a bone bruise in his left knee, the Golden State Warriors announced Sunday before their game against the Timberwolves in Minneapolis.
Kuminga suffered the injury in the second quarter of Thursday’s loss to the Mavericks in Dallas. He rolled his ankle and hyperextended his knee, then limped off the court, pausing momentarily to sit in a courtside seat before heading to the Warriors’ locker room.
An MRI on Friday showed the bone bruise, the Warriors said Sunday. He was ruled out Friday for the Minnesota game, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but postponed after federal agents shot and killed a man amid protests in the city over an immigration crackdown.
The Warriors, who play the Wolves again Monday in Minnesota, did not release a return timeline for 23-year-old forward.
Kuminga’s injury came in just his second game back in the lineup after being benched since Dec. 18. He requested a trade Jan. 15, when he became eligible to be traded after signing an extension in September and the Warriors appeared content to keep him out of the rotation until they found a deal, but Jimmy Butler’s ACL tear last Monday forced Kuminga back in.
He scored 30 points in 30 minutes of action over those two games. The NBA’s trade deadline is next Thursday, Feb. 5.
