HARTFORD, Conn. — The UConn men’s basketball team has a new Mr. Triple-Double.

Silas Demary Jr., the junior point guard brought in from Georgia to make a Tristen Newton-like impact, had his hands all over Sunday’s 79-42 win over Bryant in a sold-out PeoplesBank Arena.

Demary fired a pass down to freshman center Eric Reibe for a dunk with three minutes to play, which got him to 10 assists, 10 points and 10 rebounds for the first triple-double of his career. It was the first triple-double for the Huskies since Newton was running point and set the program record at four over his well-decorated career, two each season he was in Storrs.

Reibe, starting for the second game in a row as Tarris Reed Jr. and classmate Braylon Mullins (ankles) missed another game, finished as the team’s leading scorer with 16 points and six rebounds. He and Demary were UConn’s only two players in double-figures.

The game started fast with a corner 3-pointer from Jaylin Stewart off Demary’s first assist and then an immediate answer from Bryant’s Ty Tabales, but it quickly hit a lull as neither team shot a high percentage from the field. But the Huskies, methodical on offense and disruptive on the other end, steadily built their lead to double-figures, 15-5, when Stewart dumped off to Jayden Ross in transition for a two-handed slam about eight minutes in.

Demary, who had four points, six rebounds and six assists in the first half, helped the Huskies take advantage of the 13 turnovers they forced as he moved the ball quickly, directing the team in transition.

Freshman Jacob Furphy, making his regular season debut after missing the first few games with an ankle injury, checked in with five minutes left in the first half and immediately got involved with a steal in the lane. On the other end, Solo Ball was fouled on a layup attempt and pushed the lead to 20 from the foul line.

Ross continued to show off his dynamic athleticism through the end of the half as he forced a loose ball at the top of the key and sprinted down the court to receive Demary’s pass for a second highlight slam. He was fouled going for a tip-in at the end of the half and sent the Huskies into the break with a 37-21 lead.

UConn’s lead hovered around 20 points in the second half as Demary continued to be a pest for the Bulldogs, picking the pocket of Tabales for a layup in transition and later assisting on Alex Karaban’s first 3-pointer of the night. Karaban had a quiet two points on 1-for-5 shooting in the first half and finished with five points, seven rebounds and three assists on 2-for-10 shooting.

It was a rough shooting night across the board as the Huskies went just 25 for 64 from the field (12 for 33 in the second half) and 5 for 25 from beyond the arc.

The performance came after UConn played two high-intensity top-10 matchups against BYU and Arizona, and just before the team makes its first trip of the season to Madison Square Garden for another high-profile test against Illinois. That game, on Black Friday, precedes what will likely be a fourth ranked matchup in five games as the Huskies make their first road trip out to Kansas on Dec. 2.
