BALTIMORE — Freshman Rep. Sarah Elfreth, a Maryland Democrat, on Wednesday announced her re-election campaign.

Elfreth was elected in 2024 to represent Maryland’s third congressional district, following the retirement announcement of Rep. John Sarbanes. The congressional district includes sections of Anne Arundel, Howard and Carroll counties.

“Even on the hardest days, it has been the honor of my life to represent Maryland’s Third District in the U.S. House of Representatives,” Elfreth said in a news release Wednesday. “I’m staying in the fight and am committed to ensuring House Democrats can take back the majority and the tools and gavels necessary to reassert Congress’s Constitutional responsibility to check and balance the Executive. I look forward to all that we can accomplish together.”

She is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Natural Resources Committee.

Elfreth was a part of crafting the National Defense Authorization Act, which she voted against on the floor, though it did include several additions from the freshman representative including funding to track sexual assault, harassment, suicide, and domestic and child abuse in the military. Her work also included introducing legislation to protect probationary federal workers in the wake of cuts to the federal workforce.

Elfreth won her first election with nearly 59.3% of the vote against Republican Robert Steinberger.

Before going to Congress, Elfreth represented Anne Arundel County in the Maryland State Senate beginning in 2019.
