President Joe Biden has flown north to the Nantucket home of Orioles owner David Rubenstein for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The president arrived at the island off Massachusetts on Tuesday night in front of a small crowd eager to get a view of the motorcade.

A source confirmed to The Baltimore Sun that Biden was staying at Rubenstein’s compound for the holiday, as he has before. Rubenstein himself is not there, said the source, who is familiar with the team owner’s plans.

The Bidens have spent Thanksgiving in Nantucket since the mid-1970s, and this will be the final time he enjoys the holiday as President of the United States before Donald Trump takes over in January.

In addition to celebrating the holiday and providing turkey meals to all of his staff, Biden will also participate in the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce’s annual tree lighting in an area secured by the Secret Service with stringent rules.

This is reportedly the third consecutive year that the Bidens have stayed at the waterfront Abram’s Point home of Rubenstein, who is also the co-founder of the Carlyle Group Inc., a private equity, asset management and financial services firm.

The Faregrounds Restaurant & Pudley’s Pub on the island has been hired for more than 25 years to make more than 200 turkey dinners for Biden’s family and the Secret Service who patronize the restaurant throughout the day, according to the owner Bill Puder.

“I’ll do it buffet style for them and then they’ll just go up and grab it,” Puder said in a phone interview. “They pick it up and take it to the house.”

Puder’s secret for a moist turnkey is to “cook it nice and slow.” He said the entire town is excited about Biden being in town for the holiday.

Puder has been serving Biden turkey since he was a senator from Delaware.

“It’s also been an honor; I’ve been doing it for 27 years,” Puder said. “We always get invited to the tarmac to thank him.”

The Bidens are scheduled to leave Nantucket on Saturday.
