Auto review: 2025 Toyota Highlander goes Grand
Published in Automotive News
One of the most familiar models in the Toyota fleet gets an upgrade in the form of the 2025 Grand Highlander. The 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Nightshade Hybrid we tested is similar to the Lexus TX, which we recently also tested, but with basic Toyota finishes, perfectly suited for families looking for a mid-priced people mover with extra space and comfort.
Powering our Grand Highlander AWD was the familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine producing 245 horsepower, rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds. The eCVT was noisy at times when pushed to the limits, but given that our tester achieved 34 mpg, we had no complaints. The Grand Highlander boasts great standard features such as seating for seven, 20-inch black wheels, second row captain chairs, a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system with a JBL 11-speaker system and heated and cooled seats. Upgraded on our Nightshade tester was premium paint, panoramic roof and a cargo mat.
Wind Chill Pearl, one of three exterior colors available on this model, showed out nicely, while black leather was standard on the inside. With 13 cup holders, wireless smartphone charging, seven USB-C ports and a 1500W inverter for two 120V AC outlets, the Grand Highlander is ready for travel, people moving, storage and comfort, ensuring everyone has adequate room.
The 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander AWD is a great-looking large SUV and a great addition to the fleet. Its large body style makes it useful for a variety of purposes, it gets better than anticipated mileage, and it won't break the bank. That's why I see Grand Highlanders on the road and in a ton of driveways already, as this all-purpose vehicle checks all the boxes for many consumers.
