How can I use the blessings I’ve had to help others consider their own relationships?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: My elderly father died several months ago, and I miss him so much. He was fortunate to have lived a long and healthy life up until the very end. He was an encouragement to me, and no matter what was happening, he was my rock of stability and was such a testimony for the Lord. I know I’ll see him in eternity, but until then, I’m not sure where I will find my strength to go on. It is hard to imagine my friends who do not share the blessings I’ve had. How can I use this to help them consider their own relationships? – M.D.

A: It is a natural emotion to experience the loss of the ones we have loved and enjoyed fellowship with during our time on Earth. But we must be on guard so that we don’t lose something more important – the sight of Heaven. We can get so used to our earthly experiences and forget that Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12, NKJV).

Jesus’ light makes Him the Hope of the hopeless, the Savior of the lost, and the Guide of the wandering. It is in Him that believers find joy here on Earth, but also look forward to the eternal joy of Heaven in His presence.

You see, life is just a schoolroom with a glorious opportunity to prepare us for eternity. Many people are living today with barely a thought of eternity. Before we embark on our own final trip, we must prepare for where we will spend eternity, and for those who belong to Jesus Christ, we are left here for this purpose – to witness for Him and lead others to salvation. The eternal destiny of each individual depends on a decision made in this life (see Luke 16:19–31).
