Is the term 'human race' in the Scripture?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I’m studying the anthropology of race at the university but have been slapped with a citation – accused of racism – because I made the comment in class that there is only one race in all of the world – the human race. To calm down the emotion this has stirred, the teacher said that she would accept my Bible resource for this, but I cannot find the term “human race” in the Scripture. Help! – D.R.

A: The Bible says, “[God] has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might find Him, though He is not far from each of us” (Acts 17:26–27, NKJV).

But God did not create the strife between races and ethnic groups; it comes from sin – and sin resides in the human heart. When one group claims it is superior to another, pride has taken control – and pride is sin.

There is no Jew, no Gentile – no black, white, yellow, or red. Christ belongs to all people, but each individual must go before the Lord and repent of sin and receive Him as Lord and Savior. Until we come to acknowledge Him as the Prince of Peace and receive His love in our hearts, the racial tensions will only increase.

The Bible does speak of the fallen race that Christ came to save. There are Christians all over the world – from every language and culture. “[The Lord] was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every [nation] and language would obey” (Daniel 7:14, NLT).
