Mercury's Swan Dive

Holiday Mathis on

It's common for people to be disinterested in how others perceive the world, as most assume others see things as they do. While there may be an objective reality, each person can only have subjective access to it. The water-sign embrace of Mercury portends: Those who wonder and care what others experience will take part in a divine swirl of deep knowledge.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). People tend to do what is easy for them. Someone giving a lot may have abundant resources, so "a lot" is easy for them. As you acknowledge efforts, consider the effort expended and risk endured.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The right audience will make a difference. It's not about the number of people so much as the fit. Who needs and wants what you offer? An engaged audience will bring curiosity and much more to the room.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The people around you want to be seen and noticed by you, not just for what's on the surface but for something they probably can't quite put their finger on. You do have this way of witnessing the subtle talents of others.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Once you set the plan, you don't like there to be a lot of changes. But sometimes that's just how it happens. Who is perfect? Nobody. What is perfect? Nothing. Stay fluid and agreeable. Negotiate as you go.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). There is nothing wrong with needing things. To be an embodied creature of earth is to be needy. Maybe logically it doesn't seem you should need something, but if you keep returning to it, it could be a primal message that you do.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). There are behaviors you want to change. If only it were as easy as doing what you tell yourself to do, the world would be your oyster. What would make it less complicated? What can you cut out that would give you simplicity?

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). It is impossible to have a mature adult relationship with an immature individual. Most relationships are their own curious mix: teacher/student, parent/child, caretaker/care-needer. Few relationships completely fit the standard mold.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You're primed to listen, learn and discover. With your guard down, growth feels natural, like breathing. Your intuition is a compass, and your instincts sharpen as you head without hesitation toward what feels right.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Maybe there are no second chances, only "chances," as every opportunity is new. Today's opportunity will be deceivingly similar to something that's happened before, but it's golden in a whole new way.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). More than discipline or willpower, success with an aim depends on routines and systems. It takes trial, error, time and tenacity to create the sturdy practices that will help you continue to produce at a high level. Be patient and keep at it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). A leopard can't change its spots, and science points to the reason, which includes multiple genetic determinants for such patterns. There's an art to knowing what you can change and embracing what you can't, and you'll master it today.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). The moments of synchronicity are a wink from the universe that brightens the landscape of your day with a gleaming nod to the web of consciousness on which you dance.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (OCT. 13). Your brilliant balance of responsibilities is a feat of acrobat grace to behold. You'll meet new people and form unusual partnerships -- some novel for their remarkable ease, others a wonder of diversity. More highlights: winning scores, masterful dealings and a big sale. You'll also cut your conversational edge bantering with other funny people. Capricorn and Aquarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 19, 2, 24 and 18.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Sacha Baron Cohen got his start as a genuine television host of British programming before experimenting with characterizations and deeper comic, dramatic, social and political principles. The mastermind behind such comic characters as Ali G and Borat Sagdiyev uses comedy for political activism and social change. Cohen is a Libra with natal Mars in revolutionary Aquarius, the sign of humanity, technology and the future.
