This is an old favorite of mine for showing students. It’s actually very logical.


This position is from Spielmann-Honlinger,1929. At the root of this position is a chess player’s knowledge (which Spielmann had)that if there were no knight on f5, a very well-known mating pattern would exist, so-- 1.Ne7+ Qxe7 2.Qxh7+ Kxh7 3.Rh5+ Kg8 4.Rh8#
