Sarah Michelle Gellar prefers her current appearance to her younger days.

The 48-year-old actress is embracing ageing ahead of her milestone 50th birthday on April 14, 2027.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Sarah told the new issue of PEOPLE magazine: "I don't mind talking about a project from 15, 20 years ago. I look at pictures of when I was younger, and I'm like, 'I think I look better now. I like myself more now.'"

However, the star had previously felt insecure about not looking like her younger self.

Sarah admitted: "There was a time in my life when it did affect me sometimes, and I'm like, 'Great, I don't look like that anymore.'

"And then you get to this place where you're like, 'Yeah, I don't want to look. I shouldn't look like that anymore.'"

Despite feeling more confident in her looks now, the Scooby-Doo cast member has not ruled out getting a facelift one day.

Sarah shared: "This is me. This is my skin. I haven't had a facelift. I'm not saying [that] one day I won't. I don't judge anyone, but this is me. I can't lie about my age because everybody knows my age!"

Getting older has meant the I Know What You Did Last Summer actress has "discovered exercise in a new way".

Sarah explained: "Everyone says as you get older, you have to start lifting. I always was afraid of lifting weights because I'm an actor, and if you look like the Terminator, it's hard to do a period piece.

"But you realise as you get older, you really do. I have found trainers that I really enjoy that keep it fresh for me."

Sarah has enjoyed an illustrious career that has spanned over 40 years, and she is "proud" of her journey so far.

The Daytime Emmy Award winner said: "I've been so fortunate that I've never been trapped in one role in one age. I don't know how I got that lucky, but I'm proud of what I've done. I'm proud of who I am."

Sarah has been married to actor Freddie Prinze Jr., 50, since 2002 and have daughter, Charlotte, 16, and a son, Rocky, 13, together.

And she is blessed to have their and her wider family's support.

The Scream 2 star added: "[It's all] where I want to be work-wise. And I have a great family. This is the best time of my life. And I'm noticing it, and I'm taking note, and I'm making sure that I'm enjoying all of those moments. You have to put the phone down."
