After illness, Minnesota guitar hero Brian Setzer will return to the road

MINNEAPOLIS — The good news: The Stray Cats are back after canceling a fall 2025 tour because of frontman Brian Setzer’s illness. The bad news: There is no date in Minnesota, where Setzer has lived for two decades.
Setzer, the Grammy-winning guitarist, will return to the road with the band that made him famous in the early 1980s, the Stray Cats.
The rockabilly revival trio has announced an 18-concert summer tour, kicking off July 24 in Las Vegas. There is no show yet in Minnesota, though there are two to-be-announced slots on the tour in the Midwest.
Setzer has suffered from an autoimmune disease that causes hand cramping, which prompted the cancellation of last year’s outing.
“It’s good to be healthy and strong again,” Setzer said in a statement. “There’s something about the unique sound of the Stray Cats that keeps drawing me in. The Gretsch guitar, the acoustic bass, and the stand-up drums still sound pure and fresh today.”
Setzer, 66, is best known for singing the Stray Cats’ early hits “Rock This Town” and “Stray Cat Strut.” He has released 13 solo albums and also led the Brian Setzer Orchestra and Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot.
He last performed in Minneapolis in December 2023 with Rockabilly Riot. His last Stray Cats’ gig in the area was in 2019.
