Self Esteem may have children after dog make her rethink motherhood
Published in Entertainment News
Self Esteem's stance on having children has changed since she became a dog mom.
The 39-year-old singer - real name Rebecca Lucy Taylor - thought nothing about starting a family with her "current male lover" before getting the pooch.
She told the Saturday Guardian: "My mind is changing about being a mom. I got a dog, and the way I feel about it is a lot, and I realize maybe I would want to be a mom."
Self Esteem - who has never revealed her partner's name, and "doesn't compromise on" sex - has been open about having non-monogamous relationships.
And now the award-winning musician has admitted she never thought she would fall in love with someone.
Asked who the star would "most like to say sorry" to, the Your Wife singer said: "Most of the people I dated between 23 and 33. It feels crazy to me that I ever thought that I could be anyone's girlfriend before I figured out the things I've now figured out."
But Self Esteem admits a "few exes" are still "the loves of my life", as well as her pals and current partner.
She was in the indie-folk duo Slow Club with Charles Watson from 2006 until 2021.
After 15 years, she went solo as Self Esteem and shot to fame following the release of her second album, 2021's Prioritise Pleasure.
Self Esteem received Mercury Prize, NME and BRIT Award nominations for Prioritise Pleasure, and in 2025, the singer bagged the Ivor Novello Visionary gong.
But despite her success, she still feels "consistently disappointed" in the music industry.
Self Esteem explained: "Every time someone says that I'm underrated, that feels extremely disappointing because I've done my end of the bargain."
But the Still Reigning songstress is proud of her achievements in music.
Asked when she last cried, Self Esteem said: "On stage at the Brixton Academy on the third night of the residency I did there [in October].
"I walked out and could not stop crying, some sort of mad relief that it's all paid off, and it's all been worth it."
