New on DVD: Take a giant leap with 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps'
Published in Entertainment News
The latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe tops the DVD releases for the week of Oct. 14.
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps": A quartet of superpowered scientists — Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing — square off with the ravenously evil Galactus and Galactus’ flying factotum, the Silver Surfer, on the retro 1960s Earth-828 planet. Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
"Directed by Matt Shakman, 'First Steps' is a total reset of the characters, arriving a decade after the disastrous 2015 'Fantastic Four' movie," writes Tribune News Service critic Katie Walsh in her review. "In the screenplay by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, the focus is on the foursome as a family. The film is much more of a domestic drama with a little world-saving on the side."

"Weapons": When 17 kids go missing in the middle of the night, a town unravels in "Barbarian" director Zach Cregger's horror mystery film.
"Sketch": Fantastical family film in which the drawings from a girl's sketchbook come to life and cause mayhem that only the kids can stop.
