FORT WORTH, Texas — Paramount is starting to pull back the curtain on season 2 of the Fort Worth-filmed “Landman.”

The Paramount+ show was in production from March to August this year in and around Cowtown, including at TCU and in downtown. The oil industry drama series will premiere on the streamer on Sunday, Nov. 16.

After exclusive first-looks in USA TODAY and Entertainment Weekly earlier this week, Paramount publicly released a slew of new photos and a new teaser trailer for the upcoming season.

Among the highlights from the trailer: We find out who Sam Elliott is playing in the show. Here’s a look at the new season.

First look at Sam Elliott in ‘Landman’ Season 2

When Elliott joined the cast in May, not much was known about his character or how he would fit into the show’s dynamic.

The teaser reveals that Elliott is playing Billy Bob Thornton’s father, who’s name is not revealed in the trailer but is credited in the accompanying photos as “T.L.” In real-life, Elliott (81) is only 11 years Thornton’s senior (70).

“So, just another day?” Elliott says on the phone to Thornton.

“Just another day, Pop,” Thornton says back while driving.

Elliott is seen later in the trailer (around the 0:52 mark) punching someone at what looks to be Will Rogers Memorial Center.

It’s unclear if the location is a stand-in for a similar venue in Midland-Odessa or the real locale in Fort Worth. Either way, a banner for Western Bloodstock, a performance horse sales company in Weatherford, is seen over Elliott’s head.

In the Season 2 photos release, Elliott and Thornton are seen hanging out with James Jordan’s Dale at the house co-opted by Tommy, Dale and Nathan (Colm Feore).

Another photo sees Elliott dancing with Tommy’s ex-wife Angela (Ali Larter).

TCU’s connection to ‘Landman’ Season 2

“Landman” visited TCU’s campus a few different times this year.

It appears Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley is attending TCU and may be on the cheerleading team, as the teaser shows a quick glimpse of her in a purple and white “Go Frogs!” shirt with white pom-poms. Paramount also released a photo from this scene.

In Season 1, Ainsley is a high school senior at Aledo and spends her spring break in Midland, where she reconnects with her father Tommy. She later transfers to a Midland high school. During the season, Ainsley mentions wanting to attend Texas Tech and studying philanthropy.

There’s another TCU mention later in the trailer around the 1:02 mark, that shows Angela throwing a bottle against the wall with purple and white balloons in the background.

One of the photos released appears to show the come down from this scene as Angela and Tommy are seen sitting on the ground with a TCU flag in the background. This is likely from the same scene since Angela is wearing the same dress in the trailer and photo.

Returning characters in ‘Landman’ Season 2

[Editor’s note: Spoilers for “Landman” Season 1 below.]

The “Landman” trailer begins with Demi Moore’s Cami Miller preparing for what may be her first public outing as the head of M-TEX Oil after her husband Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) died in the season 1 finale.

Tommy was appointed president of the company in the finale and says later in the trailer that while Cami owns the business, he runs it. The duo seem to be a fierce pair.

“The only difference between me and my husband, is I’m meaner,” Cami says to the crowd.

The trailer also shows quick glimpses of other returning characters.

Jacob Lofland’s Cooper is seen with his girlfriend Ariana (Paulina Chávez). M-TEX lawyers Rebecca (Kayla Wallace) and Nathan (Colm Feore) are walking together in a quick shot.

The trailer ends with Angela and Tommy on a private jet.

“I’m definitely gonna have to start drinking again,” Tommy says.
