'THE PENGUIN LESSONS'
Rated PG-13 for strong language, some sexual references and thematic elements.
What it’s about: A British teacher at an Argentinean school in the 1970s befriends a penguin who helps him connect with his new community during the military junta.
The kid attractor factor: The cute animal co-star and heartwarming story.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Opening yourself up to others around you is a chance to have a better relationship with yourself and your community.
Violence: Some military violence and threats, references to torture in detention camps.
Language: Some swearing.
Sex: References to sex.
Drugs: None
Parents’ advisory: Fine for older kids and teens, probably a bit too mature for younger kids to find much appeal.
_______
'WORKING MAN'
Rated R for strong violence, language throughout, and drug content.
What it’s about: A construction worker with a military past goes on the warpath trying to rescue the daughter of his employers who has been kidnapped by human traffickers.
The kid attractor factor: This is an action movie with extreme violence — not much appeal for kids.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Like the tagline says, "human traffickers beware." Some lessons about digital surveillance and staying aware of surroundings, and a lesson about ever crossing Jason Statham.
Violence: Strong violence throughout — stabbings, shootings, grenades, bites, explosions, threats of sexual violence, etc.
Language: Swearing throughout.
Sex: References to sexual violence but nothing graphic or depicted.
Drugs: On screen drug use and references to drug trafficking (cocaine, meth).
Parents’ advisory: Too violent for kids — this one is for older teens and adults only.
