SEATTLE — Five people are dead, including a suspect, after a reported stabbing and a police shooting in Pierce County’s Key Peninsula, officials say.

A caller reported that a man was violating a no-contact order around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to a statement shared by Key Peninsula Fire Department spokesperson Anne Nesbit.

Deputies from the Pierce County sheriff’s office confirmed that the order had not yet been served and therefore wasn’t valid, according to the statement. The deputies received a copy of the order to serve to the man.

While they were en route, multiple witnesses reported that a man was stabbing people outside a home at 9:30 a.m., according to the statement.

One deputy arrived and a report of shots fired came in at 9:33 a.m. according to the report. Nesbit said the deputy fired a shot that fatally killed a man.

Four people were reported dead at the scene, including the man suspected of the stabbing, the statement said. A fifth person died of their injuries after they were taken away by Gig Harbor Fire.

The incident is under investigation.
