Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has married partner Jodie Haydon, becoming the nation’s first leader to wed while in office.

The couple tied the knot at a small ceremony on Saturday in the presence of family and close friends at the prime minister’s official residence in Canberra, Albanese said in a statement.

“We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends,” he said.

The nuptials come seven months after Albanese’s landslide election victory. His center-left Labor Party remains comfortably ahead of the opposition in opinion polls.

After the ceremony, Albanese and Haydon walked back down the aisle to the Stevie Wonder song Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).

They will honeymoon in Australia from Monday to Friday next week.
