The man accused of fatally shooting actor Jonathan Joss, known for his roles on “King of the Hill” and “Parks and Recreation,” has been officially charged in the killing.

A grand jury this week indicted Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez on a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly killing Joss, who was his next door neighbor, according to court records cited by People. He was subsequently released on $200,000 bond.

Joss was shot and killed on June 1, while he was visiting the site of his former home just south of San Antonio. When authorities responded to the gunfire around 7 p.m., they discovered Joss lying “near the roadway” and “attempted life-saving measures,” police said. Joss was ultimately pronounced dead on the scene. He was 57 years old.

Witnesses later told investigators Joss was engaged in an argument with his Alvarez prior to the gunfire. After the shooting, Alvarez fled the scene in a vehicle, but allegedly confessed when he was approached by the arresting officers.

Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss’ husband, claimed the actor had been a victim of a hate crime. He told police he witnessed the shooting, which came after “years of threats” due to Joss’ sexuality.

“My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home,” Gonzales said in a statement on Joss’ Facebook page. “That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.”

The San Antonio Police Department has since said it has uncovered no evidence to suggest the killing was a hate crime.
