NEW YORK — A newborn baby was found abandoned on a subway platform in Midtown Manhattan’s Penn Station during Monday morning’s rush hour, police said.

The infant was discovered conscious and alert at the bottom of a staircase on the busy platform for the No. 1, 2 and 3 subway lines about 9:30 a.m., police said.

Medics took the baby, who was conscious and alert, to Bellevue Hospital for observation.

Police have not yet located the parents or been able to identify the baby.
