Texas Democrats rake in millions for U.S. Senate race. Who has raised more?
Published in News & Features
Democrats Colin Allred and James Talarcio have both brought in millions since announcing their bids for U.S. Senate, according to their campaigns.
But Talarico, who represents the Austin area in the Texas House, has raised more in the three weeks since launching his bid.
Talarico, who entered the race on Sept. 9, raised more than $6.2 million and has received donations from more than 125,000 individuals, according to an Oct. 1 news release.
“We’re underdogs in this fight against billionaire mega-donors and their puppet politicians, but more than one hundred thousand people have answered the call to build a new kind of politics,” Talarico said in a statement, adding that “we shattered our goal thanks to the help of teachers, nurses, firefighters, farmers, veterans, and other working Texans fed up with our rigged system.”
Allred, who previously represented the Dallas area in the U.S. House of Representatives, has raised more than $4.1 million, “powered by more than 100,000 grassroots donations” since he launched his bid on July 1, according to his campaign. Allred lost the Senate race in 2024 to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican.
In a statement, Allred’s Campaign Manager Dan Morrocco said the haul is part of working-people powered “grassroots movement with real staying power.”
Both campaigns said their fundraising totals do not include “corporate PAC money.”
The candidates face an uphill climb as they work to win a statewide seat in a state that hasn’t elected a Republican statewide in decades.
The U.S. Senate seat is held by Republican incumbent John Cornyn, who is facing embattled Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican primary.
The Republican and Democratic primaries are on March 3.
Allred and Talarico’s campaigns announced the top lines of their fundraising hauls Wednesday.
Both announced their bids after the previous campaign filing period closed on June 30.
The latest reports, due Oct. 15, cover July 1 through Sept. 30.
