Top leaders who were recently ousted from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will testify in a Senate health hearing on Sept. 17.
Former CDC Director Susan Monarez, who was fired after a clash with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and former Chief Medical Officer Debra Houry are among those set to discuss recent turmoil at the agency, including the departure of top officials, according to a release from the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee.
“To protect children’s health, Americans need to know what has happened and is happening at the CDC,” Louisiana Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy, the HELP committee chairman, said in a statement. “They need to be reassured that their child’s health is given priority. Radical transparency is the only way to do that.”
The HELP committee is also planning to invite current officials at the Department of Health and Human Services to respond by speaking at a future hearing, according to the release.
