Family of young man fatally shot in his Queens home demands meeting with Mayor Adams

NEW YORK — Relatives of Win Rozario, a 19-year-old shot to death by NYPD officers in his Queens home last year, are demanding Mayor Eric Adams meet with them.

In a letter that was set to be sent to Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Thursday, mother Notan Eva Costa, father Francis Rozario and brother Utsho Rozario wrote they’ve gotten nothing but “lies, obstruction, and inaction from your administration” in the 15 months since the teen was fatally shot by two officers in their Ozone Park home on March 27, 2024.

“Mayor Adams: We are requesting a meeting with you, along with our team. We hope you will stop acting as if Win wasn’t killed under your watch, and agree to this as soon as possible,” they wrote in the letter, which was provided to the Daily News on Wednesday.

Of the two cops involved in the episode, Salvatore Alongi and Matthew Cianfrocco, they added: “Make good on your words about accountability and ensure that Alongi and Cianfrocco are fired for unjustly killing Win.”

Adams’ office did not immediately return a request for comment.

The missive comes after Rozario’s relatives filed a lawsuit this week against the city, alleging the NYPD officers violated a range of department regulations and forced the deadly confrontation without justification.

The officers responded to the Rozario home after the teen, who was experiencing a mental health episode, called them for assistance, body cam footage and police officials have confirmed.

Rozario was holding a pair of yellow kitchen scissors when the officers walked in, prompting them to scream at him to drop them. When he didn’t, they shot him multiple times, killing him. The whole incident lasted less than two minutes.
