DENVER — The 26-year-old man who shot and killed two people in a University of Colorado, Colorado Springs dorm room last year will spend the rest of his life in prison, court officials said.

El Paso County District Court Judge Davis Shakes sentenced Nicholas Jordan on Wednesday to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole after a jury found the 26-year-old guilty of all charges, 4th Judicial District Attorney Michael Allen said during a Wednesday afternoon news conference.

That includes two counts of felony first-degree murder, three violent crime sentence enhancers and a menacing misdemeanor, according to court records.

On Feb. 16, 2024, Jordan shot and killed 24-year-old Samuel Knopp and 26-year-old Celie Montgomery in a dorm room on the CU’s Colorado Springs campus.

Allen called the shooting “a senseless roommate dispute” that “escalated to a double-murder” during the news conference.

Earlier that year, Jordan had threatened to kill Knopp, his roommate, over being asked to take out the trash, according to court documents. The menacing charge stemmed from that death threat.
