The Microsoft Azure outage knocked out some of Alaska Airlines' systems Wednesday, including its website and mobile app, preventing some passengers from checking in to flights.

The Azure issue comes just a week after Alaska experienced its own IT outage. On Thursday, a failure at Alaska's primary data center led to an eight-hour ground stop, disrupting travel plans for more than 50,000 people. It was the second IT outage related to a data center failure Alaska has experienced this year.

Wednesday's outage did not appear to affect Alaska's planes. The airline did not call for a ground stop Wednesday morning.

Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines, which are in the process of merging their IT systems following an acquisition last year, host several services on the Microsoft Azure platform.

The airline originally said it is working with its tech partners to restore services as quickly as possible," before removing that sentence from its statement Wednesday.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we navigate this issue, Alaska said Wednesday.
