Costco recalls Kirkland Signature prosecco over sudden shattering risk

Think twice about popping that discount prosecco!
Costco is recalling its signature brand of sparkling wine over concerns the bottles could suddenly shatter, even when “not handled or in use,” the company said in a notice posted on Tuesday.
The recall affects bottles of Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene purchased from the big-box warehouse club between April 25 and Aug. 26.
The bottles, labeled with the item number 1879870, were sold in 12 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Due to the danger posed by the glass shattering, the company isn’t asking customers not to return the affected prosecco.
Instead, they’re advised to dispose of unopened bottles immediately by wrapping them in paper towels and then securing them in plastic bags before placing the bottles in the garbage to avoid any injuries if the glass does shatter.
Costco is sending letters to customers whose accounts show they purchased the faulty product. Members can receive a full refund when they bring in their copy of the mailed notice.
It’s the second recall from Costco in less than two weeks.
On Sept. 4, the company issued a recall for its Dubai-Style Chocolate after the packaging was found to have “inadvertently listed ‘gluten’ as the allergen, rather than ‘wheat.' ”
